Join CalSol

Can I Join CalSol?

Thank you for considering joining CalSol. Most members of CalSol are undergraduate Engineering students, but no experience is required and all majors are welcome to join the team. We will attempt to train you in, but be prepared that to get the most out of CalSol requires the ability to independently research and find solutions.

What Will I do in Calsol?

Members of CalSol can get involved in all of the stages of designing and constructing a solar vehicle. CalSol provides a unique experience for students at Berkeley to get hands-on with a large-scale engineering project, and is a great supplement to your education. You can get as much out of CalSol as you are willing to put in. Members in CalSol can gain experience in:
  • 3D modeling with software such as SolidWorks
  • Structural Analysis
  • Machining
  • Welding
  • Designing Circuit Boards
  • Programming in C
  • Using CAN communications
  • and much more..

Joining the Team

The best way to join is to come to a meeting during the semester, subscribe to the email list, and email calsol@newton.me.berkeley.edu. At general meetings the whole team meets to discuss progress and plan what to work on in the next few weeks. General meetings are scheduled every Wednesday in 6153 Etcheverry at 6PM. The team is divided into subgroups, primarily the electrical and mechanical teams. The Electrical Meetings are TBA for the fall. The Mechanical team meets in smaller subgroups at various times of the week. To find out about upcoming meetings join the mailing list for prospective members below.
