To go along with our shell construction efforts, CalSol has also been hard at work on our canopy for Cal Day. Our platinum sponsor, Kreysler & Associates, generously milled our canopy plug for us and we have been preparing it by spraying it with primer and sanding it down to a smooth finish.
Initially, we ran into some trouble with the canopy since the molds are made of foam and several companies told us that vacuum-forming using polycarbonate would require a metal mold. However, we worked through this roadblock by reevaluating our options and doing some seriously cool impact testing (video here!).
We will take our plug to Bell Plastics to have the canopy thermoformed out of PETG plastic in a couple of days to get ready for Cal Day. We are so excited with our progress and we come closer and closer to our finished car!
